How does all-inclusive really work? A guide for guests.
All-inclusive holidays tend to offer a lot more than just accommodation and meals.

All-inclusive holidays typically include not only meals, but also beverages and snacks. Some even offer activities and entertainment. The specific extras included can vary depending on the resort or hotel chain. It's therefore useful to find out beforehand what your all-inclusive package includes. Typically, main meals such as breakfast, lunch and dinner are served buffet-style, so you can eat as much as you like.
In addition to meals, soft drinks and sometimes local alcoholic beverages are included. However, international alcoholic drinks may incur additional charges, so bear this in mind. Some resorts offer snacks between meals and occasionally have à la carte restaurants available, which require prior reservation.
A wide range of activities is typically offered. Many all-inclusive resorts offer free access to sports facilities such as swimming pools and gyms, and sometimes even water sports. You may also be able to take part in yoga and aerobics classes, as well as organised activities for children.
Entertainment is often included in the all-inclusive package, too. This can range from evening dinners accompanied by live music, to themed shows and cabaret performances. However, the quality and frequency of the entertainment can vary significantly depending on the destination and the type of resort.
When you arrive, you will usually be given a wristband or card granting you access to all the all-inclusive amenities. Make sure you keep this handy at all times so you can easily access the various facilities.
It is wise to check the hotel's policy for any restrictions or special rules that may apply. For example, some resorts have strict opening hours for bars and restaurants. Knowing this in advance can help you avoid unexpected charges.
Finally, certain extras, such as spa treatments, room service and non-motorised water sports like diving, may be excluded from the all-inclusive package. These are usually available for an extra charge. Please check with reception or refer to the information directory in your room to find out exactly what is included in your booking.
