A lovely family hotel with good facilities and a great all inclusive package, with a choice of good food to suit everyone. Several pools, so a choice of the busy main ones or the quiet relax pool. The hotel staff are friendly and the front of desk guys and gals amazing. Try to learn a few key Greek phrases. Centrally placed on the East coast, it has good excursion links to the rest of the island and to other islands - Chalki is idyllic.
Be very careful when making a booking here and avoid Villa Mare!
We have booked through Esky where we were given the option to pay extra for a "Standard Villa" that looked much better than the standard room, so we went for the upgrade.
Upon arrival, we were taken out of the hotel to a run down and disgusting student accommodation called "Villa Mare" which is apparently a budget Villa option the hotel offers but looked nothing like the pictures on our booking - those turned out to be their most premium Villa options.
I immediately reported this to the reception but since we arrived at midnight, they said we need to spend the night in the Villa Mare and we will sort it in the morning.
First thing in the morning I went to the reception where they confirmed we should not be at Villa Mare but at a Villa within the hotel and asked me to return at 11am so they can move us: I returned at 11 and the receptionist took a complete 180 turn in attitude, saying our current accommodation is where we need to be and any issues must be addressed with the travel agent.
There was half a day of back and forth between the agent and the hotel, in the end no one took responsibility and my complaint with the agent is still ongoing, meaning we had to spend the entire holiday in that god awful student dorm.
Meanwhile, the hotel, despite receiving the vast majority of the money we paid for the holiday ( the agent takes like 10%), refused to provide any resolution whatsoever, was completely uninterested in helping us and didn't even apologise for the issue.
I never had such an awful experience with hotel staff in my life, shame on you!
For a 4 star hotel this (lack of) service is completely unacceptable.
You might be wondering why we weren't just trying to enjoy the "villa" (hahaha) we were given, so let me attach some photos of the student dorm we were placed in, as it was nothing like the pictures on the agent or the hotel's website.
Other "great" features of the hotel included bland and unseasoned food throughout, very occasional and surface-level cleaning, barely working and ultra slow wifi and the fact that while the hotel has its own generator, Villa Mare is not connected to it so when the power went, we were completely in the dark until it was fixed.
We couldn't wait to leave this god awful hotel and will not be returning.
We stayed at this hotel during our vacation through a travel agency. Upon arrival, we were accommodated in a room where we were disappointed from the first moment (stink, mold on the walls, broken furniture, lots of ants, the mirror in the bathroom was missing - it was just leaning against the fridge, the shower only had a hose but no space to close it, so water was everywhere, the broken phone was connected with a rubber band)
Fortunately, we went to solve it immediately and at the reception we were informed that the hotel was full, so we had to wait until the next day when we were changed rooms. Fortunately, it was similar to the photos on the website.
The food is great and we always had something to choose from. There was also no problem with the bar or the program that the animators took care of.
The only drawback is that the hotel does not have its own beach, so you always have to go to it, buy sun loungers for 20 € / day, but also food or water if you don't want to run back to the room. Although in Greece the beaches are public, some hotels and complexes have appropriated them. So it is not possible to buy a sunbed, or the beaches are rocky. The best of these was probably St. Nicolas Beach, which is close and has a sandy beach, a bar and toilets.
Overall, it is clear that the hotel is trying to do its best for tourists, even with such a large influx of tourists. Which sometimes causes you to get a less than ideal room.
We had a really great stay at this hotel and it even exceeded our expectations. Our room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, with daily housekeeping.
The food was very delicious a nice variety, and the all-inclusive option was a big plus. We also really appreciated that we could enjoy food and drinks even before check-in and after checkout.
The staff were incredibly friendly, helpful, and professional, which made our stay even more enjoyable. We had a wonderful time and hope to come back again in the future!
Lovely hotel, amazing staff and very friendly, great entertainment especially Mikey ensuring everyone was happy! Two lovely girls who chatted to all the children which was amazing.
Great location and easy to access public transport.
The only slight downfall was the food could be quiet repetitive but for the price you pay this is expected.
