We were a party of six and chose this restaurant because it was the only available food option at that time of day. Unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. I ordered a lamb dish, while others in our group ordered lamb and salmon. We waited about an hour for our food to arrive. When my lamb finally came, it was burned and tasted very bitter. Honestly, I cook much better at home. The portions were also extremely small. The dessert was tasty and was one of the few highlights of the meal.I would give this experience 2 stars, mainly because of the poorly prepared food, long wait, and very small portions. My airplane lamb dish was much bigger. That said, the servers and the administrator were very nice and clearly tried to make up for the disappointing food. Their kindness and effort were appreciated, even though they couldn't completely compensate for the poor cooking. The size of the lamb portion was way below 200 grams. It was the size of the hotdog. Couple days later we stopped in the Hólmavík Riis cafe, and the served us the 200 gram lamb. See the picture from the Holmavk Riis Cafe below. Husafell restaurant has to learn the math for measuring 😁
We had a Michelin-level experience. Everything was beautifully presented, inventive, and delicious.
Outstanding meal. Michelin worthy for sure. We were visiting this lovely property as part of a Backroads hiking tour and were told to expect surprises but we were blown away. The menu read incredibly well but the proof is in the pudding and the food was better than it red and exceeded our expectations. We had the bread w smoked fish rilettes w some sort of a basil oil or pesto - outstanding. Ditto for the butter. We also had the crispy cauliflower vegan entree which may be the best vegan entree we have ever had. The flavors were truly developed which is not that easy. We also shared the salmon w carrots, ginger and a lovely sauce to pour over. I ate it both with and without the pour over sauce and it was amazing both ways. My dad had the equally interesting and tasty pork belly. For dessert we shared the Licked a Sheep in the Highlands. Loved the ice cream and interesting flavor pairings. Worth a trip for sure and Michelin inspectors — where are you? Not to be missed.
We had dinner at the restaurant during our one-night stay at the hotel. It was outstanding! Honestly on par with many of the great restaurants we’ve eaten at in NYC. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the food, the cocktails were creative and well made, the food was ridiculously good. So many little elements executed well and pulled together. Wish we’d have had one more night! Definitely far, far above our expectations. This is gourmet dining where we didn’t expect it, without at all feeling stuffy.
An unforgettable dinner. Every dish we had was outstanding, but the biggest surprise was the dessert “Licked a Sheep in the Highlands” — it sounded unusual on the menu, but it turned out to be absolutely incredible and the highlight of the evening. “One Night in Kyoto” was also excellent, elegant, and beautifully balanced. The Highland starter and the pork belly were both phenomenal as well. This is not a restaurant that just sounds creative on paper - the kitchen truly delivers. Highly recommended.
