As a solo traveler, I couldn't have asked for a better stay at ION Adventure Hotel. The location is absolutely incredible, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes that make the experience feel truly unique. The rooms were beautiful, comfortable, and the perfect place to relax after a day of exploring.
What made my stay especially memorable was the outstanding service. Aneta and Arek were incredibly sweet, welcoming, and genuinely kind. Traveling alone can sometimes feel a bit isolating, but they made me feel right at home from the moment I arrived.
I highly recommend to anyone visiting Iceland. Between the stunning setting, excellent rooms, and wonderful hospitality, it was a highlight of my trip.
INCREDIBLE experience at the Ion Adventure hotel! This is one of my favourite hotels I’ve stayed at all over the world, and I am a fussy guest with high expectations. The location is remote, however we had no issues driving from Reykjavik, in fact we loved the drive - this is obviously weather dependent and you should check the road status before. The hotel is next to a geothermal power plant which we found unique and interesting. For those that didn’t look at the hotel’s history, it is a converted power plant staff accommodation site. The location is so quiet and relaxing, the staff are all incredibly friendly and helpful. Food is AMAZING - yes it’s expensive but it’s expensive everywhere in Iceland and this is even more remote. Being vegetarian made it slightly limited over a 3 day stay but the cauliflower was really good. The overall vibe is gorgeous and we loved the Scandi design and especially the hot geothermal swimming pool and sauna! You cannot beat the views and we saw the Northern Lights both nights from the car park. Unfortunately due to a storm we had to cut our trip a night short - the front desk staff were so helpful and even transferred our booking to the Ion City hotel in Reykjavik so we didn’t need to book another new place and be out of pocket! I can’t wait to return one day, such a special place.
We stayed at the ION Adventure Hotel our last night in Iceland and it was the perfect end to our week of travel. Our day leading up to our stay at ION was extremely chaotic and tiring. We got a flat tire on a gravel road and still had around 5 hours of driving to do that day, which turned into 6 due to an hour backup of standstill traffic at a bridge under construction. We had originally planned on an 8pm dinner reservation at Silfra, that we pushed to 9pm due to the flat tire, and then were going to have to cancel due to the bridge traffic, but the ION staff were incredibly caring and accommodating and said that we could order ahead and they would keep our meal warm until our arrival. We didn't end up making it to the hotel until 10:30pm, when we were greeted with complimentary glasses of sparkling wine. The receptionist was aware that we had ordered food and directed us to the restaurant where the staff were amazing and so kind to us after our long day. They had us put our bags in our room and brought us our dinner and a surprise dessert to the Northern Lights bar, where we were able to enjoy a delicious meal and drinks in a calm and scenic setting. Our room was perfect, with a great view and comfy bed that provided much needed rest. ION was also the perfect base for our tour of the Golden Circle before heading to the airport for our flight in the evening, and the ION breakfast that morning was a tasty start that fuelled our day. Overall, ION was an 11/10, with unparalleled service that we are so grateful for.
Really gorgeous hotel. Some other reviews mention the power plant nearby, it was absolutely not an issue during our stay. Our room was beautiful with a stunning view, the pool is super nice, and the breakfast is delicious. Highly recommend.
Our stay at the ION Adventure Hotel was truly exceptional from start to finish. What stood out the most was the incredible staff; both at the front desk & in the restaurant. Everyone was warm, attentive, and genuinely committed to making our experience memorable. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service in the restaurant was outstanding. Every meal felt like a highlight of the trip.
We stayed in a junior suite on the ground floor, which came with its own outdoor space, such a special touch. The room was beautifully designed, comfortable, and quickly became our little retreat. We absolutely loved it.
The pool area was also very unique and added to the overall experience, it’s definitely something you shouldn’t miss while staying there. I would highly recommend this hotel and wouldn’t hesitate to return. It was an amazing experience all around.
