This hotel was truly wonderful. The staff all very polite and modest, reception, cleaning, bar etc. Nothing was a trouble. Everything was clean and tidy. Breakfast was a great choice. We loved the roof pools area, so clean and the amazing view! Just the guest should refrain from blocking all sun beds with towels for the whole day even when they were not present most day! Bad manners. The roof bar staff invited guests for one free drink of summer Sangria- that was a lovely gesture. The hotel is located in a street with lovely small shops and restaurants, the famous beach is walkable in 15-20 mins, we didn’t mind walking while others took a bus or taxi. But it’s quite hilly, so the way back is up the hill 😅. The hotel, in my opinion, is a good location away from the city hassle and over tourism, quieter area and easy to get to Comino or Gozo Island, which we did. We reserved a trip (through Solana web offer) Tuk-tuk sunset ride in Gozo and that was really nice. It includes a boat ride to the blue lagoon-swim, ride across the island with the best spots to see. It was a wonderful stay in this hotel!
Had a fantastic time at The Salano.
Very clean and staff exceptionally friendly.
We stayed full board which was great, the 3 course lunch menu was fabulous.
We had a suite which was amazing and big enough for a rave 💥😎 had everything, was superb.
Roof top pools and bar are great especially with the very long cocktail happy hour.
Have to add to the review the absolutely fantastic Dawa (Peter Pan) who takes customer service to another level.
He looks so young but has a wealth of experience, a happy fun guy who is brilliant at his role.

Solana Hotel & Spa in Mellieħa was such a lovely stay and felt like affordable luxury in Malta.
The hotel is beautiful, with four pools, including heated pools, an indoor pool, and stunning rooftop pools with the most gorgeous views. Our room felt very luxurious, spacious, and very clean, with a big beautiful bathroom. I also loved the little touches, like the robes and chocolates on arrival.
We had a balcony with a beautiful view over the town and ocean, which made the stay feel even more special. The big TV with a Bluetooth speaker was also such a nice bonus.
The spa amenities were really lovely, and the whole hotel felt relaxing and well looked after. The location is perfect if you want to stay somewhere a bit quieter, but still be within walking distance of a sandy beach and great restaurants.
A beautiful, comfortable hotel and such a great option for anyone looking for a relaxing Malta stay without spending a fortune.
My friend and I stayed here from 29th April to 5th May while attending Higher Love Festival. The staff were nice and helpful. Even though we arrived at the hotel around 12pm, they managed to have one of our rooms ready within an hour, which we really appreciated as we had an event to get to.
The hotel was quiet throughout our stay, and we never had any issues. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and there was even a lovely little surprise waiting for us when we arrived, which was a really nice touch. Overall, we had a great stay and would happily return.
Nightly power cuts, unusable air conditioning, brown tap water, and a technician who never appeared
Our one-week stay was affected by several major issues: daily power cuts, air conditioning that had to be restarted three or four times every night, brown water coming from the tap, a promised technical intervention that we never actually witnessed, pools that were far too small, and a generally bland breakfast.
Power cuts and interrupted air conditioning every night
Every night, the power cuts caused the air conditioning to switch off automatically. We had to wake up and restart it manually, sometimes three or four times in the same night. Power cuts also occurred during the day.
Reception explained that the hotel could not do anything because these were general power outages. However, this does not change the impact on guests: interrupted sleep, a hot room, and air conditioning that could not function properly throughout the entire week.
A technician promised for the same evening… then a note two days later at 7 a.m.
After reporting the problem, I was told that a technician would come that same evening. Nobody came.
Two days later, we found a note slipped under our door stating that a technician had attempted to visit, but that we were not in the room.
The issue is that the note was delivered at around 7 a.m. At that time, we were simply asleep inside the room. Claiming that we were absent was therefore particularly surprising. We never saw the technician, received no call, and the problem continued.
Completely brown water from the tap
While I was washing, the tap water suddenly turned completely brown.
I immediately called reception. The staff member did not seem surprised and simply told me that this could happen and that the water should return to normal within approximately one hour.
Even if the issue was temporary, seeing brown water while washing was extremely unpleasant and concerning.
Pools far too small for the size of the hotel
The pools are very small compared with the number of guests the hotel accommodates. There is very little space, and the sun loungers are positioned directly next to one another.
For anyone hoping to enjoy a peaceful and relaxing day by the pool, the experience is far from ideal.
A bland breakfast
The breakfast offers a reasonable selection, but we found most of the food bland and lacking in flavour. A few items were acceptable, but overall it did not match the price of the hotel.
The few positive points
The staff were generally welcoming. The spa was also pleasant, and its team appeared competent and professional.
This was my third visit to Malta. I have previously stayed in several hotels in other areas, all of which offered a much better experience and significantly better value for money.
Considering the repeated power cuts, the interrupted nights spent restarting the air conditioning, the brown water, the promised technical intervention that never materialised, and the overcrowded pool areas, the Solana Hotel is clearly not worth the price.
This will be our last stay at this hotel.
